Bishop Benjamin Jerome Crouch, a longtime Pacoima resident founded the community's Christ Memorial Church of God in Christ and is the father of Grammy award-winning gospel singers Andrae and Sandra Crouch.
Born in Dallas in 1915, Crouch studied at Wilberforce University in Ohio and the Biola Bible Institute in Los Angeles. In 1939, he married Catherine Hodnett, who worked as church administrator of Christ Memorial for many years. Benjamin and Catherine became the proud parents of three children, the eldest, Benjamin J. Crouch Jr., and a set of twins, Andrae E. Crouch and Sandra E. Crouch.
Catherine Dorothea Crouch is the mother of Grammy-award winning gospel singers Andrae Crouch and Sandra Crouch and was an active member of her husband Bishop Benjamin J. Crouch Sr.’s San Fernando Valley church, Christ Memorial Church Of God In Christ.
Born Catherine Hodnett in Los Angeles CA, Mrs. Crouch grew up in Blythe CA and married Benjamin Crouch in 1939. Three children were born to Benjamin and Catherine, Benjamin J. Crouch Jr., Andrae E. Crouch, and his twin sister Sandra E. Crouch. As a young married couple, they ran two Crouch Cleaners operations and a restaurant in Los Angeles.
