Hello Lovely Ladies,

Today we are blessed to celebrate Mother’s Day! We honor God for creating the unique role of a Mother. Whether you have children of your own, are a spiritual Mother, or have become a Mother to someone you did not birth, we honor you.

A Mother is a priceless gift from God. Her arms are loving and warm. Her smile brings peace and her touch-security. Her gentleness and kindness spring forth from God’s Agape Love. Her tears break our heart, yet give her strength!

We dedicate this issue and pay special honor to our beloved Mother Canister, lovingly known as Aunt Harriett, whom God had blessed with 100 years on this earth. For those who know Mother Canister, you know that she has lived and continues to live the life of a virtuous woman possessing the attributes described in Proverbs 31. We would like to share with you just a glimpse of some of the highlights of Mother Canister’s life journey- To God Be the Glory!

Harriett Wilda Canister was born on April 13, 1919 to the proud parents of William Hodnett and Arbella Folk-Hodnett in Duarte, California. Mother Canister is the sixteenth child and the last living among her five brothers and ten sisters. During her childhood, she resided in Blythe, California where she graduated from Palo Verde Union High School in 1937. She furthered her education by attending Los Angeles City College and transferred to County General Hospital of Los Angeles where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. During Mother Canister’s career of almost 53 years, she worked at several Hospitals such as: Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, Good Samaritan Hospital of Los Angeles, and Martin Luther King Drew Medical Center of Los Angeles where she retired while working with neonatal drug abuse babies. She also participates in New Christ Memorial Church’s annual 3 mile Walk-A-Thon fundraiser. She always puts God first and believes prayer is essential.
